Home Brew Day

Home Brew Day (at Boscos) is scheduled for Saturday May 5th, To sign up, please fill out this form. The deadline for registration is Monday, April 30th.

Location: Bosco’s Squared @ Overton Square. Wort will be distributed around 9 or 9:30 a.m. get there early to get a good spot.

Boscos provides: 6 gallons of wort per brewer and the yeast (or bring your own), pre-boil
gravity will be about 1.050 and the composition will be mostly 2-row with some crystal malt

You provide: brewing equipment, hops and anything else you want to put in your beer (also, bring a lawn chair and/or tent if you have it, this event goes on rain or shine!). Expect RAIN and the occasional tornado.

April 2012 Club Announcements

Meeting next Thursday, Central BBQ on Summer, 7:00 pm, Mike Weipert has volunteered to do a presentation on Mead.

Pro Am

Bring your Pro Am entries, there are some general guidelines posted here. Richard will take the entries to Boscos for judging by Chuck and Adam. Entries are $10, two entries per person, max, please label your entries with brewer and beer name. You must be a BCBC member to enter.

Elections

Club President and 2013 Extravaganza Competition chairman officer positions will be voted on. Please notify a club officer if you are interested in running for either.

AHA Club Only

AHA club only this month will be Scottish and Irish Ale (Category 9), here are the competitions for the next few months, so start brewin’, please notice judging dates vs. deadline dates. Full list of 2012-2013 AHA located on the AHA website.

  • May AHA – Scottish & Irish Ale (Category 9), will be judged at the April meeting
  • August AHA – Porters (Category 12), will be judged at the July meeting
  • September AHA – Light Hybrid Beers (Category 6), will be judged at the September meeting
  • November AHA – Old Ale (Category 19A), will be judged at the October meeting

Home Brew Day at Boscos

War of the Worts Homebrew Competition

Announcing ‘War of the Worts Homebrew Competition’, presented by Golden Triangle Brewers of Mississippi. This is Mississippi’s first full-category sanctioned AHA/BJCP homebrew competition, be a part of history!

Golden Triangle Brewers supported our homebrew competition; it would be nice to see Bluff City Brewer entries in the winners list. Don’t forgot this will also add points for the Bluff City Brewer homebrewer of the year.

Final Judging: May 19th, 9:00 am. Go to gtrbrewers.org and click on 2012 War of the Wort to enter or sign up to judge.
Entries due: May 11, 2012 (J.L. will be running entries to Mississippi first weekend in May, email J.L. to setup a drop off and he’ll take your entries.)

J.L.’s having a brew day at his house Sunday March 25th, come out and brew some entries for the contest. Facebook, email, or call J.L. at 828-442-4894 for details.

Newbie All Grain Brew Day

The club is planning a “Newbie All Grain Brew Day”, this is an opportunity to get hands on experience brewing an all grain batch of home brew. Participants only need to provide their ingredients (grain, hops, yeast) and a fermenter, we will provide the equipment. We will also have a cook out and beer tasting.

Both beginning brewers and non-brewers are encouraged to participate.

Do you have any thoughts on how the meeting went at Ciao Bella? Would you like to see us move meetings there permanently?

If we move there, we’d probably have to move the meetings to Monday or Tuesday (a less busy night for them than Thursday) but we may be able to work out some deals on food. Your feedback is needed!! email communications@bluffcitybrewers.com

Extravaganza After Party

Calling all folks who have entries or plan to help with this year’s Bluff City Brewers Extravaganza:  Ben Pugh is hosting this years Extravaganza afterparty at 2380 Lake Edge Drive Cordova, TN 38016. The plans are to start the after party at 7pm and go until whenever. Food will be provided as well as competition beer, attendees are encouraged to bring food and beer to share.
